A total of 2,28,695 cases were reported across Telangana during 2025 as against 2,34,158 cases in 2024, registering an overall decline of 2.33%, according to the annual report released on Tuesday (December 30, 2025).
The data was shared by Director General of Police, B. Shivadhar Reddy, during the Telangana State Annual Round Up, which reviewed crime trends, law and order and public safety indicators across the State.Total IPC and BNS cases stood at 1,67,018 in 2025, marginally lower than 1,69,477 cases reported in 2024. Overall crime figures, which include IPC, special and local laws, also showed a downward trend.
Murder and rape cases
Murders declined to 781 cases in 2025 from 856 in the previous year, while rape cases dropped from 2,945 to 2,549. Robberies reduced sharply from 703 to 512 cases and rioting incidents fell from 324 to 186. Kidnapping and abduction cases also came down from 1,525 in 2024 to 1,145 in 2025.
Theft cases
Thefts decreased from 19,480 cases in 2024 to 17,700 in 2025. Vehicle thefts accounted for 6,930 cases, contributing about 39% of total thefts. Burglaries recorded a marginal increase, rising from 5,724 to 5,755 cases. Cheating cases fell from 33,618 to 28,394, while criminal breach of trust cases increased from 701 to 863. NDPS cases rose from 1,950 in 2024 to 2,542 in 2025.
Road accidents
The annual review also flagged road safety trends. There was an increase of 5.68% in road accident cases in 2025 compared to 2024. In 2025, 24,826 road accident cases were reported, in which 6,499 persons died and 14,768 were injured. Despite the rise in accidents, the number of deaths reduced by 557, a decline of 7.9%. The number of injured persons fell by 6,896, or 31.8%. In 2024, 23,491 accident cases were recorded, resulting in 7,056 deaths and injuries to 21,664 persons.
Commenting on the overall law and order situation, DGP Shivadhar Reddy said, “Law and order has been maintained well in the State, with effective check on violent crimes, activities of Maoist, communal and terror outfits.”
He said all major religious, cultural and national events during the year were conducted peacefully. “All important festivals, including Sri Rama Navami, Hanuman Jayanthi, Bonalu, Ganesh Chathurthi and associated immersion processions, Vijaya Dasami, Ramzan (Eid-ul-Fir), Bakrid (Eid-ul-Adha), Moharrum, Milad-un-Nabi, State Formation Day and Independence Day celebrations went off peacefully with adequate bandobust arrangements and by taking all stakeholders into confidence,” he said.
509 maoist cadre
Highlighting the decline of left wing extremism, the DGP said that in 2025 alone, a total of 509 underground CPI (Maoist) cadres surrendered before the Telangana Police. This included two Central Committee Members, 11 State Committee Members, three Divisional Committee Secretaries, 17 DVCMs or CyPCMs and 57 ACMs or PPCMs. Of the total surrendered cadres, 483 were from Chhattisgarh, 24 from Telangana and one each from Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh, reflecting what officials described as the steady weakening of the organisation.
