The State government is working towards providing the best sports training to athletes, identify and encourage talent and help them win medals in national and international competitions, said Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath.

Participating as the chief guest in the inauguration of the three-day regional sports meet, being organised by the Department of Technical Education at the Government Polytechnic College in Vijayawada on Monday (December 29), Mr. Sivanath said sportspersons should take advantage of the support being provided by the government.

He said efforts are being made to develop stadiums and sports grounds with best facilities so that they can host national competitions. He added that the government is also planning to conduct sports competitions at the village level to scout for and encourage talent in rural areas.

Vijayawada East MLA Gadde Rammohan Rao, who was also present, said conducting sports competitions in schools and colleges contributes to the mental and physical development of students. He encouraged students to take inspiration from Vijayawada-based athletes, who have reached great heights and gained national and international recognition, to achieve success in their fields.

Polytechnic Regional Joint Director G.V. Ramachandra Rao, Government Polytechnic College principal M. Vijayasaradhi and others were present.
