One person was arrested at Kishtwar, in the Chenab Valley, on Monday (December 29, 2025), after a clash between two communities left a few people injured.

According to the police, members of one community were carrying logs from the jungle on Sunday (December 28), when a log slipped and fell near a madrassa in Kishtwar’s Padyarna locality. “An altercation resulted between two communities, which led to stone pelting, and a few people sustained minor injuries,” the police said.

The police said a First Information Report under Sections 125, 125(a), 191(2) of the BNS was registered. “Investigation has been taken up accordingly,” the police said.

Meanwhile, the police said a man was detained for uploading a video on social media and “trying to give it a communal angle”. The detained local claimed “it was an attack on a religious place”.

Caution on social media

The police asked the public “to exercise utmost caution and responsibility while using social media and other digital platforms”.

Meanwhile, former J&K Chief Minister and National Conference (NC) president Dr. Farooq Abdullah said the Centre should intervene over the reported “targeting of a mosque and a madrassa by stone pelters”.

“Evil exists and will do its work. But India is a secular country, where the Constitution gives every religion the freedom to run its institutions. It is up to the Centre to guide the states to stop this,” Dr. Abdullah said.

Ban on VPN

In the Kashmir valley, VPN services were barred in Kulgam for security reasons.

The deputy commissioner of Kulgam ordered the suspension of VPN services with immediate effect. The suspension was ordered “in view of the prevailing security situation and to avoid potential misuse of VPN services, which may impede lawful monitoring and pose risks to public safety,” the order said.

“All residents of Shopian district are requested to strictly adhere to the order and cooperate with the district administration and police. Any non-compliance or violations of the order shall invite strict legal action under relevant provisions of law,” it added.

Meanwhile, a drone has been seized in Poonch. Officials said police found the drone in a field at Gohled village in the Mendhar sector on Monday afternoon.
