A 50-year-old man and his son were arrested by the Vaniyambadi Town police in Tirupattur on Friday (December 26, 2025) on charges of forging government documents, including legal heir, community certificates, land pattas, and Public Distribution System (PDS) cards.

The police said the arrested persons were identified as B. Venkatesan and his son V. Karan (28). They are residents of Perumalpettai village near Tirupattur town. Initial inquiry revealed that Venkatesan, along with his son, had been running an e-seva centre near the taluk office in Vaniyambadi town for the past few years. Police said that a few weeks ago, the victim, farmer S. Jeeva (47), a resident of Vaniyambadi town, visited the centre. Jeeva requested help in filling out a government application form to obtain a legal heir certificate from the taluk office.

However, Venkatesan reportedly told Jeeva that the process of obtaining a legal heir certificate from the taluk office was cumbersome. He instead offered to arrange the certificate and demanded ₹15,000 for the work. Subsequently, Jeeva paid the money and received the certificate.

Later, Jeeva took his relative Mariappan to Venkatesan to obtain a PDS card. However, when Mariappan went to collect essential commodities from a fair price shop in Vaniyambadi town, the PDS staff rejected the card as fake.

Jeeva then verified his legal heir certificate with officials at the taluk office and found that it was also fake. He subsequently lodged a complaint with Tirupattur Superintendent of Police V. Shyamala Devi at the weekly grievance meeting held at her office.

A special police team investigated the case and found that Venkatesan and his son were issuing forged documents to people for a commission. The police sealed the e-seva centre and seized electronic equipment, including computers and printers, used for the purpose. A case was registered, and the arrested persons were lodged in the sub-jail in Tirupattur town. Further investigation is under way.
