Expressing his displeasure over the Cabinet Sub-Committee’s statement on utilisation of the palatial buildings at Rushikonda, constructed during the YSRCP government’s term, BJP MLA from Visakhapatnam North P. Vishnu Kumar Raju said on Thursday that neither he nor other public representatives elected from Visakhapatnam were consulted by the committee.

“Did the Sub-Committee hold any discussions with the local representatives on what should be done with these buildings? It did not contact me at all. I have checked with other representatives, and they too have not received any call. People are unhappy over the manner in which the committee is taking decisions on these buildings. The opinion of the people of Visakhapatnam must also be taken into account,” Mr. Raju said while speaking to the media.

Earlier, the resorts at Rushikonda were accessible and meant for everyone, he observed. Stating that he had come to know of the committee’s plan to recommend the handing over of the buildings to major hotel groups, he said, “If that happens, the common man will no longer have access to the buildings.”
