The Special Court of Sessions for criminal cases against former and present MPs and MLAs dismissed the anticipatory bail plea of Byrathi Basavaraj, MLA for K.R. Puram, in the realtor “Biklu” Shiva murder case on Tuesday. With this, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has renewed it’s efforts to nab Mr. Basavaraj, who has been absconding.

The CID filed a chargesheet in the murder case against 17 accused on Monday. CID is yet to file charges against the MLA and have shown him as an absconding accused in the case.

The High Court of Karnataka, on December 19, granted relief for Mr. Basavaraj, quashing the invocation of the Karnataka Control of Organised Crime Act, 2000, but asked him to approach the sessions court for anticipatory bail. Mr. Basavaraj approached the sessions court on Saturday. Even as the court did not give him any interim relief, he has been absconding, amidst CID efforts to arrest him. His plea has been dismissed on Tuesday by the Sessions Court.

Meanwhile, CID is working towards getting a Look Out Notice issued against Mr. Basavaraj to prevent him from fleeing the country. CID is expected to file an appeal against the High Court order quashing the invocation of KCOCA, 2000, in the case.
