While several political parties, including the Congress, saw a decline in donations in 2024-25 compared with the previous financial year, the Bharatiya Janata Party saw the contributions grow by nearly one and a half times, according to audit and contribution reports submitted to the Election Commission.

The BJP received ₹6,088 crore in donations in 2024-25, as against ₹3,967 crore in 2023-24.

The donations include contributions from electoral trusts, which have increased significantly since the scrapping of the electoral bonds scheme in February 2024. Prudent Electoral Trust was the top donor, disbursing ₹2,668 crore to 15 parties in the last fiscal. Other sources include individuals, corporates, and institutions donating directly.

The BJP received ₹3,142.65 crore from electoral trusts.

Parties that saw a decline in donations include the Trinamool Congress, YSR Congress, BJD, TDP, and the BRS, while those that saw an increase include the JD(U), Samajwadi Party, and CPI(ML)L, among others.

The donations received by the BJP were nearly 12 times that of the Congress, which received ₹522.13 crore compared with ₹1,129.66 crore in 2023-24.

The BJP has submitted its Contribution Report, but its audit report is not yet available on the Election Commission website. The Congress audit report for 2024-25 shows the party spent ₹1,111.94 crore, including ₹896.22 crore on elections.

The donations received by the Trinamool Congress too decreased from ₹646.39 crore to ₹184.08 crore, while its total expenditure was ₹227.59 crore, of which election expenditure accounted for ₹137.58 crore.

The YSR Congress received ₹140.05 crore, down from ₹184.11 crore the previous fiscal, while its election expenditure was ₹299.92 crore.

The TDP, which aligned with the BJP during the 2024 Lok Sabha election, saw the donations received by the party come down to ₹85.20 crore from ₹274.65 crore, while the BJD’s report showed a decline to ₹60 crore from ₹245.5 crore.

The CPI(ML)L saw its donations rising from ₹94.63 lakh to ₹2.98 crore. It spent ₹1.69 crore on elections in 2024-25.

The donations received by the JD(U) rose to ₹18.69 crore from ₹4.35 crore, while the Samajwadi Party saw its donations rising from ₹48.22 lakh to ₹94.47 lakh.
