A senior accountant in the Sub-Treasury office at Dhone was caught red-handed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) when he was accepting a bribe, on Monday.

According to officials, the complainant, J. Syam Raj, who retired as revenue officer in Dhone Municipal office last June, was making rounds at the Treasury office for his pension benefits and also for the transfer of his pension from Dhone to Anantapur. The accused, Ramavath Laxman Naik, demanded a bribe of ₹45,000 to process the file. As Syam Raj was not ready to pay the amount, Laxman Naik agreed to process the file on payment of ₹30,000.

The ACB officials on Monday laid a trap and caught Laxman Naik when he accepted the amount at the Sub-Treasury office compound. Searches are being conducted at the residence and office premises of the accused, the officials said.
