A 35-year-old BJP woman activist set herself on fire outside the house of another BJP worker Mallinath Biradar in Nandikur village on the outskirts of the city on Friday night.
The deceased has been identified as Jyoti Patil, a resident of Brahmapur locality.
According to police sources, she poured petrol over herself and set herself ablaze in front of Biradar ‘s house in Nandikur village. The police sources said that Biradar was not at home at the time of the incident.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that Jyoti and Biradar got acquainted during party activities and were said to be involved in financial and real estate dealings.
However, the exact reason for the woman activist ending her life is yet to be ascertained.
A case has been registered at the Farhatabad Police Station. Investigation is under way.
