BJP Telangana president N. Ramchander Rao asserted that the recent Panchayat poll verdict was a ‘clear rejection’ of the Congress and BRS, and a “vote in favour” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s good governance.
Speaking at a felicitation programme for Sarpanches, Deputy Sarpanches, and Ward Members from Nirmal district, on Friday, Mr. Rao alleged that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy was ‘misleading’ people by claiming credit for unanimous Sarpanch election results.
Lauding the party’s strong performance, he said that BJP had achieved significant victories across the state, winning 103 out of 181 gram panchayats in Muthol Assembly constituency. In Nirmal district, the party secured over 80 sarpanch posts out of 128, while Khanapur constituency saw 32 BJP Sarpanches elected. There were notable wins in Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Adilabad, and Medak as well, he claimed.
He highlighted that the Centre had allocated ₹8 lakh crore for rural employment in 11 years, compared to ₹1.08 lakh crore during Congress’s 15-year rule. “The Modi government, however, supports farmers directly through ‘PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi’. In the last 11 years, the central government has spent over ₹12 lakh crore on Telangana’s development,” he said.
Legislature Party Leader A. Maheshwar Reddy, MLA Rama Rao Patel, and others congratulated the winners and ridiculed the ruling party’s claim that all unanimously elected sarpanches were its supporters. Mr. Reddy demanded that the Chief Minister immediately conduct MPTC, ZPTC, and municipal elections.
Chief spokesperson N.V. Subash termed the Gram Panchayat election results as a testament to rural voters’ rejection of the Congress administration. “It served as a political referendum on the Congress government, which failed to secure even 50% support in rural areas. Despite the Chief Minister’s extensive campaigning, the results were the opposite of his expectations,” he added.
