Tribal patients will face more ordeals with privatisation of medical colleges in Andhra: Araku MP

Yuvajana Sramika Rythu (YSR) Congress Party’s Araku Member of Parliament Gumma Thanuja Rani on Friday (December 19, 2025) said the privatisation of government medical colleges and their affiliated super specialty hospitals would deny free medical treatment for tribal patients in near future. She said the tribal people whose income was meagre can’t afford treatment and surgical expenditure in the private hospitals.

Along with Parvatipuram MLA Alajangi Jogarao, the party’s Parvatipuram-Manyam district president Sathrucharla Parikshit Raju, Ms. Rani met former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy in Vijayawada on Thursday (December 18, 2025).

In a note released on Friday (December 19, 2025), she said “Mr. Mohan Reddy was happy with the success of one crore signature campaign taken up by the party to oppose privatisation of 17 medical colleges including Paderu and Vizianagaram which is the nearest place for people of Saluru, Parvatipuram, Kurupam and other areas which are part of Araku Parliament segment.”

“Mr. Jagan ensured the construction of medical colleges in remote area such as Paderu also with an aim to ensure quality treatment at free of charge for tribals and others. But the Telugu Desam Party government ignored the good intention of the then Jagan’s administration. The National Democratic Alliance government should allocate ₹5,000 crore for the completion of the construction of all medical colleges to protect the interests of poor patients including tribal people,” said Ms. Rani.
