Joachim Frank, who shared the 2017 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for developing cryo-electron microscopy, addressed faculty members and students as part of the Eminent Scholar Lecture Series at Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) on Thursday.

A professor at Columbia University, he explained the significance of single molecules in understanding biological processes and highlighted advancements in molecular electron microscopy. Prof. Frank discussed how electron microscopy had evolved into a powerful tool for visualising biological structures at the molecular level, enabling deeper insights into complex cellular mechanisms, according to a release.

Dr. Banu P. Jena, renowned cell biologist and distinguished professor at Wayne State University, delivered a lecture on ‘The porosome secretory machinery: from discovery to therapy’. The university signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the US-based H2AI LLC to collaborate on research and development in green hydrogen technologies on the occasion, the release said.
