The house in Chennai where Amarajeevi Potti Sriramulu breathed his last will be developed as a memorial, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said after paying rich tributes to the freedom fighter on the latter’s death anniversary on Monday.

Felicitating the family members of Sriramulu at a programme organised at Thummalapalli Kshetrayya Kalakshetram, Mr. Naidu said Potti Sriramulu had sacrificed his life for the honour and self-respect of the Telugu people by actively participating in the struggle for Indian Independence.

He noted that Sriramulu’s fast-unto- death helped in achieving Statehood for Andhra on a linguistic basis on October 1, 1953, with Kurnool as its capital, paving the way for the subsequent formation of Andhra Pradesh.

The government is officially organising Potti Sriramulu’s centenary celebrations until March 16 next year and that a Smruthi Vanam is being built in Amaravati where his statue would be installed and named as the ‘Statue of Sacrifice’, the Chief Minister said, calling Sriramulu as an asset for the people of Andhra Pradesh.
