Beypore gears up for water fest

The fifth edition of the Beypore International Water Festival will be held at six venues in and around Beypore, Kozhikode, from December 26 to 28. The festivities will include water adventures, beach sports, water sports, a kite festival, an exhibition of ships and their technology by the Navy, and other cultural activities.

A cycle rally will be held from Kozhikode to Beypore on December 25 heralding the start of the festival, while a marathon from Chaliyam to Beypore will be held on December 28.

Contestants from five countries are expected to take part in the kite festival, one of the major attractions of the festival. Competitions in kabaddi, beach football and beach volleyball will be held on December 22, 23 and 24 respectively. A chess competition, demonstration in kalaripayattu, karate and other martial arts will also be held ahead of the festival.

Arts festivals for residents’ associations and Kudumbasree groups will include competitions in cinematic dance, ganamela, comedy skits, nostalgic dance, Oppana, Thiruvathirakkali, Kolkali and folk music. Cultural programmes by winners of various arts festivals, differently abled students, music schools and elderly clubs, local plays and a magic show will also be held at the venues such as Chaliyam, Nallur, Ramanattukara, Feroke V. Park, Nallalam V. Park, and Abdurahman Park at Nallalam.

Adventure sports events such as kayaking, sailing, dragon boat racing, surfing, stand-up paddling, jet skiing, fly boarding, dinghy boat racing and country boat race will be held in Beypore from December 26 to 28.
