As Andhra Pradesh enters the second week of December, many places in the State, not just in the northern region but also in Rayalaseema, have begun reporting a drop in daily minimum temperatures.

The winter chills are likely to continue in the State, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Amaravati, as minimum temperatures are expected to be below normal over the Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema from December 12 to 25.

In the weekly forecast report released on Friday, the IMD said that while daytime temperatures would remain below normal in South Coastal A.P. and Rayalaseema during the period, they are likely to be above normal in North Coastal A.P.

On Friday, out of the 21 automatic weather stations (AWS) of the IMD in A.P., the lowest of 13 degree Celsius was recorded in Jangamaheswarapuram, a departure by 4.3 degree Celsius from the normal. It was followed by Nandigama and Anantapur at 13.8 degree Celsius. The IMD does not have an AWS at Lambasingi.

According to the A.P. State Development Planning Society, the lowest of 3.3 degree Celsius was recorded at Dalapathiguda of Araku Valley in Alluri Sitharama Raju district during the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday. Dambriguda, also in the same district, recorded 4.1 degree Celsius during the period.

Many places in Chittoor, Kurnool, Tirupati, Prakasam, also recorded minimum temperatures below 13 degree Celsius during the 24-hour period starting 8:30 a.m. on Friday. Vijayawada recorded 17.7 degree Celsius, and Nunna, on the outskirts of the city, recorded 14.8 degree Celsius. Visakhapatnam, too, recorded its minimum temperature between 14 and 17 degree Celsius.
