A 57-year-old businessman from Basavanagudi suffered injuries after a pellet, suspected to be from an airgun, allegedly struck him on the neck.

The man, identified as D. Rajagopal, runs a restaurant in the same locality, police officials said.

The incident reportedly took place on December 10 near Krishna Rao Park between 8 p.m. and 8.30 p.m.

A senior police official said, “Mr. Rajagopal was taking a walk with a relative when he suddenly heard a sharp sound and immediately felt a stinging pain behind his left ear, just above the neck. Realising he may have been hit by a pellet, he was rushed to a hospital and then lodged a police complaint.”

Based on his statement, the Basavanagudi police registered a case under provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. Mr. Rajagopal was taken to a hospital where he received medical attention for the wound and was discharged.

Officials are now trying to confirm whether the injury was caused by an airgun and whether it was a deliberate attack.
