Wayanad records highest polling percentage in State

Wayanad district recorded the highest polling percentage of 78.15 in local body elections in the State on Thursday.

Kalpetta block panchayat (80%), Sulthan Bathery block panchayat (79.19%) and Mananthavady Block Panchayat (78.69%) are at the top. While Kalpetta municipality recorded 77.26% polling, Sulthan Bathery municipality registered 77.48% polling. Mananthavady municipality recorded 78.68% polling.

The Wayanad district panchayat recorded 78.21% polling. Of the 64,378 voters in the district, 50,502 cast their votes.

Polling was rather peaceful in the district. The polling process was slow in the morning but picked up momentum by around 10 a.m. only to slow down again after 11 a.m. However, it gained momentum later in the day.

Counting of votes will begin at the seven designated centres in the district at 8 a.m. on Saturday.
