Two Congress woman candidates and a polling agent were assaulted in two separate incidents at Thalassery and Malur in Kannur district of Kerala on Thursday (December 11, 2025), triggering tension during the local body polling.

K. Lathika, the United Democratic Front’s (UDF) candidate in the Panur block’s Pullode division, was attacked inside a booth at Vettummal Mapila LP School. A group of reportedly Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] workers allegedly forced their way into the booth, snatched the voters’ list from Ms. Lathika and pushed her aside while hurling abuses. Ms. Lathika was admitted to the Indira Gandhi Co-operative Hospital in Thalassery following the incident.

In a similar incident at Malur panchayat, a groupofreportedly CPI(M) workers allegedly attacked a booth at the Kunderipoyil LP School in the 11th ward. UDF candidate Amala and Youth Congress district secretary Rahul Makkileri were reportedly assaulted. They sought medical treatment following the attack.
