As part of Operation D-Hunt against drug peddlers and traffickers, the Kollam City police have registered 22 commercial quantity drug cases and 50 medium quantity cases in the district this year. Furthermore, the efforts led to the arrest of 968 persons from various parts of the country.
D-Hunt is a vigorous operation carried out by the Kerala Police aimed at preventing the use and trade of narcotics in society and targeting individuals involved in such cases.
Preventive detention
“With the aim of preventing the activities of individuals involved in the illegal trafficking and distribution of narcotics, 10 people from Kollam city have been placed under preventive detention and are currently housed in various jails across the State under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. This number is high compared to other districts in the State. This indicates the strong and efficient action taken by the district police against the drug mafia,” said officers.
According to the Kollam City police, the measures taken by them go beyond arresting individuals caught trafficking narcotics as they focus more on tracing the source of the seized drugs to effectively dismantle the entire network. “Through this approach, instead of just arresting an individual, the police aim at completely eliminating all links in the chain, including production, storage, distribution, and financing of the narcotics. This, in turn, boosts public confidence in the police and encourages people to participate in anti-narcotics efforts, thereby strengthening Kerala Police’s anti-drug campaigns such as ‘Yodhavu’. Strong measures to suppress the drug mafia groups will continue in the district,” said the City police.
