Following up on his assurance that his government would help the four children in Kallakurichi district, who had lost their only surviving parent last month, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin handed over assistance measures to them in the Secretariat in Chennai on Monday.

Mr. Stalin handed over a housing patta worth ₹2.5 lakh, a housing allotment under the Kalaignar Kanavu Illam programme to be constructed at ₹3.55 lakh to the children. He also handed over an appointment order for a computer assistant job to one of them, and also handed over orders sanctioning assistance to two children under the Anbukkarangal initiative.

Under the Anbukkarangal initiative, each of the children would get a financial assistance of ₹2,000 a month. The CM also handed over assistance of ₹6,000 towards another child getting vocational training. In a social media post, Mr. Stalin said that his DMK government would stand by the children in coming up in their lives.

Moved by a report about the plight of four children in Kallakurichi district, who recently lost their only surviving parent, Mr. Stalin had last month instructed a Minister and officials to fulfil all their requirements. He also spoke to the children over the phone and assured his government’s full support.

“These four children would henceforth be this government’s children. The government would protect their future,” Mr. Stalin had said. Minister E.V. Velu had visited the children and provided financial assistance for their immediate requirement.

In another event, the CM virtually unveiled the foundation for the construction of 23 mini sports stadia in as many Assembly constituencies across the State at a total cost of ₹69 crore.

Mr. Stalin virtually inaugurated infrastructure facilities in Thengapattanam fishing harbour in Kanniyakumari district, in Tharangampadi fishing harbour in Mayiladuthurai district and infrastructure facilities in Kadana in Tenkasi district at a total cost of ₹98 crore.

Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin, Anitha R. Radhakrishnan, Ministers Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi and T.R.B. Rajaa, Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam and senior officials were also present during these events in the Secretariat.
