K.R. Nandini, Chief Executive Officer of Mandya Zilla Panchayat, inspected the preparatory works for the Krishi Mela, scheduled to be held at V.C. Farm in Mandya district from December 5 to 7.

Ms. Nandini said a total of 50 stalls were being set up to provide adequate space for women from self-help groups (SHGs) to sell their products.

A total of 34 SHGs from Mandya district and 16 SHGs from other districts will be allotted stalls at the Krishi Mela, she added.

The SHGs in Mandya district are preparing food products using millets, and these products will be introduced in the market under the brand name ‘Siri Samruddhi’, Ms. Nandini said.

She added that all district offices had been instructed to procure food products prepared by SHGs for their meetings and events in order to strengthen the economic condition of these groups.

Ms. Nandini, who inspected the preparatory works on November 28, reviewed the construction of the main stage, stalls, and more while receiving updates from officials on the planned programmes.

She also directed officials of the Department of Agriculture and the staff of National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) to ensure extensive publicity for the Krishi Mela by organising activities like cycle rallies, bike rallies, and walkathons.

She also emphasised the need for creating more awareness about this among farmers and SHG members, apart from training them to use agricultural machinery through coordinated efforts by the Agriculture Department and NRLM.

Ashok, Joint Director of Agriculture, Roopashree, Mandya Zilla Panchayat Planning Director, and other officials from the V.C. farm were also present during Ms. Nandini’s inspection.
