Amid backlash from the residents of the Prestige Falcon City apartment complex, the South City Corporation has issued a notice to the management, directing it to thoroughly clean and disinfect all water sources, storage sumps, and tanks, and ensure that water quality was maintained as per the World Health Organisation (WHO) standards.

A resident of south Bengaluru reported cases of gastroenteritis illness in the Falcon City residential complex on November 12, after which senior officials of the Health Department, along with a team of 20 staff members, visited the premises and conducted an inspection.

“It was found that between October 6 and November 11, the Apollo Clinic located within the residential complex had been treating three to four gastroenteritis cases daily,” the corporation said in a statement.

“Conducted first-aid and medical outreach camps for the next ten days, providing health education and preventive information to the residents,” it added.

Around 177 residents received treatment at local and nearby hospitals. The water supply systems were thoroughly inspected, and water samples were collected from the main water source, storage sumps, overhead tanks, and individual flats and sent for analysis, said the corporation.

An eight-year-old boy, a resident of the apartment located off Kanakapura Road, died on November 27, three days after being admitted due to prolonged diarrhoea.

The corporation has also directed residents to be instructed not to conduct any gatherings or events within the residential complex until further orders.
