CM vows to address issues of Amaravati farmers

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has said that the government has requested the Centre to issue a notification, recognising Amaravati as the capital of Andhra Pradesh.

Addressing the farmers who gave their lands for the development of the capital region of Amaravati, at the Secretariat on Thursday, Mr. Naidu assured that he would seek exemption for them from the payment of capital gains tax for more time. 

Mr. Naidu told the farmers to take their issues to the notice of the high-level committee led by Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar. 

He said that he had granted permission for taking lands for the development of the capital under the Land Pooling Scheme (LPS) and that he was prepared to sort out issues thereof.

The government was committed to passing on the benefits of the development of Amaravati to the farmers, he asserted, while advising them not to sell their returnable plots as their prices were bound to increase at an impressive rate. 

Mr. Naidu told the farmers to look at Hyderabad to understand the value of development, noting that lands there which were once cheap, have been commanding astronomical prices of up to ₹170 crore per acre.

He expressed his intention to float LPS-2 to take the capital city development forward. Mr. Naidu said that he would decide on the farmers’ request to increase the benefits of  Floor Space Index (FSI) after due deliberations. 

The CM called upon the farmers to be united in the face of the misinformation campaign unleashed by the YSR Congress Party on the development of Amaravati.
