In a landmark achievement for public infrastructure, the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) has earned national recognition after its Project Office at Rayapudi, Amaravati, became the first government building in India to receive the IGBC Net Zero Energy Rating at the design stage.

The honour was presented during the IGBC Green Building Congress 2025 at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai.

Sandeep Dixit, Chief Architect and Design Coordinator, received the award on behalf of APCRDA, marking a major step in the Authority’s push toward sustainable and climate-resilient development in the Amaravati region.

According to APCRDA, the building records an impressive Energy Performance Index of 0.85, nearly 15% more efficient than the ECBC 2017 standard. Its advanced energy-saving features include high-performance HVAC systems, efficient lighting, and an optimised building envelope.

A 540 kWp rooftop solar plant generates around 7.88 lakh units annually, fulfilling about 45% of its energy needs, while the remaining demand is met through Green Tariff renewable power, enabling full compliance with Net Zero Energy norms.

APCRDA Commissioner K. Kanna Babu said the accomplishment sets a national benchmark for green public buildings and reinforces the State’s commitment to sustainable city development.

The three-day congress featured over 2,000 participants and global experts showcasing innovations in green infrastructure, he added.
