1. ‘Word power is world power,’ says D.K. Shivakumar in a cryptic post on X on Karnataka leadership tussle

With the tussle over the Chief Minister’s post and power-sharing taking new twists and turns by the day, Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar, who has been staking his claim for the top post, on November 27, 2025, seemed to have taken a veiled dig at Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and senior leaders of the party, with a cryptic post on X stating that “Word power is world power.”

Mr. Shivakumar wrote: “Keeping one’s word is the greatest strength in the world! The biggest force in the world was to keep one’s word… Be it a judge, president, or anyone else, including myself, everyone has to walk the talk. Word power is world power.” The message appears to be directed at the Chief Minister and his party bosses in New Delhi and reminding central leaders of the party on the much talked about power-sharing pact that was arrived when the party came to power back in 2023.

2. Koppal teen pregnancy case: Karnataka Child Rights Commission registers suo motu complaint

The Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (KSCPCR) has registered a suo motu complaint based on media reports of a 16-year-old girl giving birth to a baby boy inside the hostel washroom in Koppal district. Commission Chairperson Shashidhar S. Kosambe has written to the district collector and the Superintendent of Police of Koppal district.

KSCPCR has asked the district administration to submit within three days the necessary information regarding the action taken and directions given to concerned officers. The Commission’s letter noted that the negligence of the hostel staff was “glaring.” The mother and child — both healthy — were admitted to the district hospital after the incident, where they are undergoing treatment.

3. Eight-year-old dies amid suspected water contamination at Bengaluru apartment complex

An eight-year-old boy, a resident of the Prestige Falcon City apartment off Kanakapura Road in south Bengaluru, died three days after being admitted due to prolonged diarrhoea. Mansoor Ali, another resident, said that health issues such as diarrhoea and vomiting have persisted among many residents since the start of October.

Residents believe water contamination is behind their deteriorating health, and are alleging the same cause for the child’s death. However, civic officials said they can draw a conclusion only after the medical reports are out. Mr. Ali noted that even after the issue has claimed a life, it is still not being taken seriously.

4. K-RIDE set to get full-time Managing Director after nearly three years

The Rail Infrastructure Development Company (Karnataka) Limited (K-RIDE) is finally set to have a permanent Managing Director after operating under interim leadership for close to three years. According to sources, Lakshman Singh, a 1996-batch officer from the Indian Railway Service of Engineers, is expected to be appointed as the full-time MD anytime soon.

The MD’s post has remained vacant since the transfer of Amit Garg in August 2022. During this period, senior IAS officials including Gaurav Gupta, N. Manjula and Govinda Reddy served as interim heads. The decision to bring in a full-time MD comes at a sensitive phase, after Larsen & Toubro (L&T) terminated two major civil contracts pertaining to Corridor-2 and Corridor-4.
