The State government has completed the reservation process for the upcoming Panchayat elections and has formally submitted all details to the State Election Commission (SEC), declaring that it is fully prepared to conduct the polls.

According to officials, gazette notifications of reservations for Sarpanch and ward member posts, as submitted by District Collectors from all districts, were forwarded to the SEC. The government has decided to conduct the elections based on the existing reservation system.

Along with reservations for BC, SC and ST categories, the government has also completed the process of women’s reservation, which was implemented through a lottery system.

Meanwhile, a petition related to the Panchayat elections was scheduled to come up for hearing in the High Court on Monday. However, the case is expected to be heard on Tuesday, after which the SEC is likely to issue the election notification.

The State Election Commission has already made logistical arrangements to conduct elections in 1,12,288 wards of 12,733 Panchayats across the State in three phases. Officials say the SEC is prepared to move forward immediately after receiving the court’s direction.
