Telangana seeks ₹108 Cr for development of Mallur temple, Jampanna vagu riverfront and Bogatha waterfalls in Mulugu

Telangana Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister, Danasari Anasuya (Seethakka), sought Central assistance for three major tourism development projects in Mulugu district, seeking a total of ₹108 crore under various schemes of the Union Tourism Ministry.

During her recent visit to New Delhi, she invited the Union Minister of Tourism and Culture, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, to attend the Medaram biennial Jatara scheduled for January 2026, explaining its cultural and spiritual importance. The Jatara is Asia’s ‘largest tribal congregation’.

Places pitched for development

In detailed submissions to Union Tourism Minister, the Minister and Mulugu MLA requested funding for the integrated development of Mallur temple, the planned upgrade of the Jampanna vagu riverfront at Medaram, and the promotion of Bogatha waterfalls.

Mallur temple

Seethakka sought ₹50 crore for Mallur temple, a centuries-old shrine located on hillocks near the Godavari River in the Mulugu district.

Stating that the temple attracts pilgrims from across Telangana and neighbouring States but lacks infrastructure, basic amenities, transport connectivity and safety facilities, she proposed that the project be taken up under PRASHAD ((Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Augmentation Drive) or other schemes like Swadesh Darshan 2.0, Destination Development, Rural Tourism Cluster Development and the Tribal Circuit. Development of the temple, she said, would help conserve heritage while supporting rural employment and eco-tourism.

Jampanna Vagu riverfront

She also sought ₹28 crore for developing the Jampanna Vagu riverfront, a sacred tributary of the Godavari River associated with the Sammakka–Saralamma legend. She requested support under Swadesh Darshan 2.0, the PRASHAD Scheme and eco-cultural tourism programmes to create a sustainable and culturally sensitive riverfront.

Bogatha waterfalls

In another proposal, she urged the Centre to allocate ₹30 crore for Bogatha waterfalls, popularly known as the “Niagara of Telangana.” The waterfall, located in Wazeedu mandal. The Minister said the project would focus on sustainable tourism, enhancement of tribal livelihoods and conservation of the fragile forest ecosystem. She sought funding under Swadesh Darshan 2.0, the PRASHAD Scheme and eco-tourism development initiatives.

Ms. Seethakka requested that technical teams be deputed for site inspections and feasibility assessments for all three projects. She assured that the Telangana government would provide administrative support, ensure land availability and coordinate implementation through the Panchayat Raj and Tourism departments.
