HYDERABAD

Working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) has criticised Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for repeatedly exaggerated figures on Telangana’s debt and interest payments.

Quoting the latest CAG report for October, he said it has completely exposed the Congress government’s “mathematical manipulation” and deceptive claims. In a statement issued on Saturday, Mr. Rama Rao demanded that the Congress government release full details of the ₹2.23 lakh crore borrowed beyond FRBM limits in the last 23 months and explain which schemes or projects benefited from the massive loans. He insisted that the government disclose details of loans raised through various corporations in the last seven months.

He said that Congress leaders repeatedly claim that Telangana is paying ₹6,000 core to ₹7,000 crore every month just towards interest. But the CAG’s latest report has proved this to be an utter lie.

According to the statistics in the CAG report from April 2025 to October 2025, the total interest payment made by the Congress government is ₹16,529.88 crore or ₹2,361.41 crore per month on average. He claimed that during 10 years of BRS governance, the total borrowing was ₹2.80 lakh crore and every rupee was invested into productive assets such as Mission Bhagiratha, Kaleshwaram, Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation, Mission Kakatiya, and development projects. In contrast, within just 23 months, the Congress government has already borrowed ₹2.23 lakh crore without initiating even a single major project.

He demanded that the Chief Minister tender a public apology and release details regarding the ₹2.23 lakh crore borrowed over the last 23 months and loan details of various corporations over the past seven months.
