A sub-inspector (SI) posted at the Palarivattom police station was booked for allegedly extorting ₹4 lakh from a colleague in collusion with two accomplices. Baiju K.K., sub-inspector, Shiham, and Ramya were named as accused in a case registered on the basis of a complaint filed by a civil police officer at the AR camp, Kochi City.

According to the first information report (FIR) registered on Friday (November 21, 2025), the accused extorted the money from the complainant after accusing him of stealing a gold necklace from a wellness spa in the city.

According to the FIR, the complainant had reportedly visited the spa where Ms. Ramya works for a body massage on September 8. The next day, she informed him that a necklace was missing and asked him to return it or pay ₹6.5 lakh. He refused and suggested filing a police complaint. Following this, she allegedly involved Shiham and, with the purported assistance of the accused sub-inspector, recovered ₹4 lakh by October 1.

The accused was charged with extortion under Section 308(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. District Police Chief (Kochi City) Putta Vimaladitya has sought an internal report on the incident.
