Rain to gain strength in south, central Kerala; yellow alert for four districts on November 22

Parts of Kerala are likely to witness moderate to isolated heavy rainfall for the next few days, triggered by the low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal. According to a weather bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a low-pressure area is likely to form over the South Andaman Sea on Saturday (November 22, 2025). Thereafter, the system is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression around November 24. Further, the system will then intensify over the southwest Bay of Bengal during the subsequent 48 hours while moving west-northwestwards,

Under the influence of the system, parts of Kerala are likely to experience thunderstorms for the next five days. A yellow alert has been issued for Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Idukki on Satuday where isolated heavy rainfall is likely. Similarly, seven districts: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, and Idukki were put on yellow alert on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Thiruvananthapuram recorded the highest amount of rainfall during the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m. on Saturday, with Neyyattinkara recording 78 mm of rainfall during the period, followed by Thiruvananthapuram city, 50 mm, Thiruvananthapuram airport, Punalur in Kollam, and Pirappancode and Chacka in Thiruvananthapuram with 40 mm each. The rainfall activity is likely to be more vigorous in parts of south and central Kerala on Sunday after the formation of the low-pressure area and in line with the northward movement of the system.
