President Droupadi Murmu on Friday inaugurated the second edition of Bharatiya Kala Mahotsav at Rashtrapati Nilayam, in Bollarum. The mahotsav, themed Paschim ki Pehchaan celebrates the diverse cultural and artistic heritage of western India.

Ms. Murmu, following the inaugural, visited the pavilions of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Goa and Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu. They displayed traditional handlooms, handicrafts, tribal art, regional cuisines, and folk traditions. She also interacted with artisans and weavers, appreciating their craftsmanship and generational skills.

Ms. Murmu said the mahotsav provides citizens with an opportunity to experience the living traditions of western India. She emphasised that such festivals enrich cultural understanding and strengthen national unity. She highlighted the government’s efforts to promote cultural diversity and noted the efforts made at Rashtrapai Nilayam to make national heritage accessible to people. She also welcomed the addition of a literature segment showcasing lesser-known languages and cultural expressions.

At the event, an ethnic fashion presentation was made by students of National Institute of Fashion Technology, Hyderabad, along with tribal and folk-dance performances.

Bharatiya Kala Mahotsav will remain open to public from November 22 (Saturday) to 30 (Sunday), between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. Entry is free for all visitors.
