Justice Anil Kumar Jukanti of the High Court on Thursday quashed the First Information Report (FIR) issued against Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay by the Kamalapur police of Warangal over leakage of the tenth standard annual exam Hindi question paper in 2023.

Controversy erupted over leakage of the question paper following which the Kamalapur police registered a criminal case against Bandi Sanjay, the then Karimnagar MP and BJP state president, invoking different sections of Indian Penal Code, the Public Exams (Prevention of Malpractices) Act and the Information Technology Act. The leaked question paper was forwarded by one Boora Prashanth, who was made the second accused in the case, to the WhatsApp number of Bandi Sanjay.

The Judge observed that the investigation into the case was haphazard. The content of the complaint lodged by the school head master did not match with the sections invoked by the police, the Judge said.

In a separate matter, the judge quashed the FIR issued by the Saifabad police of Hyderabad against BRS working president and MLA K.T. Rama Rao over flying drone near Martyr’s memorial at Assembly during 2023 Assembly elections. The police contended that Mr. Rao should have obtained permission to fly the drone and not taking such permission amounted to violation of the model code of conduct.
