Deputy Commissioner B. Fouzia Taranum has directed officials to permanently relocate dogs found inside school and college campuses, bus and railway stations, playgrounds, hostels and hospital premises across Kalaburagi district in Karnataka, in view of public safety concerns, especially those affecting children.

Presiding over a district-level committee meeting held recently at her office in Kalaburagi in view of the Supreme Court’s directions in a suo motu case, she instructed officials to strictly carry out sterilisation and anti-rabies vaccination as part of the Animal Birth Control (ABC) programme.

“Stray dogs found inside school and college campuses, bus and railway stations, playgrounds, hostels and hospital premises should be relocated while the community dogs located on streets must be vaccinated and released back in the same place in accordance with the court’s guidelines,” she said.

Ms. Taranum also instructed that stray cattle obstructing traffic on State and National Highways and other major roads must be permanently shifted to designated cattle shelters or gaushalas. She stressed that these directions must be implemented strictly in both urban and rural areas of the district.

To ensure full compliance with the Supreme Court order, the Deputy Commissioner directed the heads of urban and rural local bodies, along with officials from the departments of Education, Health, Transport, Railways, Municipal Administration, Urban Development, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, Youth Empowerment and Sports, Police, Public Works, State and National Highways Authority, the university, and the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services to take responsibility and submit compliance reports.

The meeting was attended by Zilla Panchayat CEO Bhanwar Singh Meena, Kalaburagi City Corporation Commissioner Avinash Shinde, Deputy Conservator of Forests Sumit Patil, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services Deputy Director Sanjay Reddy, and members of the district-level committee.
