The northeast monsoon is likely to gain strength from Friday with another low-pressure area taking shape over the Bay of Bengal. According to a weather bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the Southeast Bay of Bengal around November 22, and it is very likely to become more marked during the subsequent 48 hours.

Under the influence of the system, scattered to fairly widespread rainfall activity with heavy rainfall (7 cm to 11 cm in 24 hours) is very likely to occur in parts of Kerala from November 21 to 24, said the bulletin. A yellow alert has been issued for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts on Friday, warning of isolated heavy rain.
