An infant died after it allegedly fell on the ground soon after birth in the district hospital in Haveri on Tuesday.
Roopa Karabannanavar, 30, from Kakol village near Ranebennur, had come to the hospital for delivery. But she could not be admitted as the obstetrics and gynaecology ward was full.
She reportedly gave birth to the baby in the corridor. The infant fell to the ground and suffered serious injuries. It died in minutes. The woman’s relatives have complained that neither the doctors nor the staff tried to help her, despite telling them repeatedly that she was suffering from intense pain.
District surgeon P.R. Havanoor told reporters that an inquiry will be conducted into the incident. Legal action will be taken against those found responsible, he said.
