Industries and Commerce Minister T.G. Bharath announced that the State government would provide a house to every eligible poor family to fulfil its target of ensuring a house for every citizen in the State.

Mr. Bharath on Monday handed over 187 Andhra Pradesh Township and Infrastructure Development Corporation (TIDCO) houses constructed at NTR Colony near Jaganathagattu to beneficiaries in the presence of MLAs Gouru Charitha Reddy and B. Dastagiri, Kurnool Urban Development Authority (KUDA) Chairperson Somisetty Venkateswarlu, and Kurnool Municipal Corporation (KMC) Commissioner P. Viswanatha.

Mr. Bharath said: “Of the 2,61,040 TIDCO houses in the State, construction of 1.40 lakh houses has been completed. Of them, 10,000 houses are in Kurnool and the State government had sanctioned ₹18 crore to complete the construction of the remaining incomplete houses.” The Minister added that nearly 40,000 people will reside in the 187 houses that were handed over. “The area will soon turn into a small town and accordingly more facilities will be provided soon. A police outpost and a U-turn point will soon come up,” Mr Bharath said.

The Minister shared that initially they estimated that ₹1 crore would be needed to provide basic amenities and to handover the houses to beneficiaries. “Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister P. Narayana consented to sanction ₹6 crore for the same but finally sanctioned ₹18 crore for speedy completion of pending works,” he said and asked the contractors to finish the works without any delay.

Additionally, he shared that the setting up of industries near the TIDCO houses will further enhance job opportunities to those living there. Facilities such as an outpost, urban health centre, and a school will also be constructed.

Ms. Charitha Reddy said that N. Chandrababu Naidu, as the Chief Minister in 2017, had started the construction of TIDCO houses and after a long wait the beneficiaries are getting their houses.

KUDA Chairperson Venkateswarlu said that the previous government had failed to fulfil the dream of the people to have a house of their own but Minister Bharath worked hard to realise their dreams.
