Multiple power centres in the DMK family were holding eight crore people in Tamil Nadu to ransom, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami said at Dharapuram in Tiruppur district on Thursday.

Mr. Palaniswami, mentioned Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s wife Durga Stalin, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, and the CM’s son-in-law Sabareesan as the other power centres, which, according to him, are paralysing administration.

The talk by DMK Ministers about accepting Mr. Udhayanidhi Stalin’s son Inbanidhi as their future leader only goes on to prove that the DMK party was being run as a corporate company. “People have been made to suffer for the prosperity of one family. The 2026 Assembly polls will serve as a closing ceremony for the DMK family rule,” Mr. Palaniswami claimed during his roadshow.

According to him, there was no safety for policemen in Tamil Nadu. Six policemen have been murdered in the last six months. The Police Department feared to take action on drug mafia for fear of antagonising the ruling partymen complicit in the crime. The fear of law and order machinery is gone in the DMK rule. Rampant drug culture has ruined the State’s economy, he said.

Comparing the prices of rice, dal, edible oil and other essentials under AIADMK and DMK regimes, the former Chief Minister said the escalation in the costs up to 100% has hit the people hard.

During the AIADMK rule, the government had set apart ₹100 crore to absorb the impact of price rise of essential commodities by purchasing the products from other States where the prices were lower and selling them through cooperatives, he said.

Mr. Stalin has also gone back on his election promise to categorise construction materials as ‘essential commodity’; the middle class will never he able to build own houses anymore, Mr. Palaniswami said.

The AIADMK will bring to book those responsible for what he described as ‘mega scams’ in Registration Department and TASMAC.

The petitions the DMK government has been receiving from the people were found in a water body at Thirubhuvanam in Sivanganga district and for packing eatables in Pudukottai district, he claimed.

Earlier, starting off the day’s campaign at Madathukulam, he said the AIADMK had waived the farm loans, but the DMK government was not bothered about the welfare of farmers and farm workers.

The AIADMK general secretary sought to know if the Chief Minister was prepared to leverage the INDIA bloc bonding to engage the Communist regime in Kerala for finding a solution to the Anamalayar-Nallar issue, in the remaining seven months of the DMK tenure. “Else, people will not forgive.”

The AIADMK will restore three-phase power supply for farmers, he added.

Winding up the day’s campaign at Kangeyam, Mr. Palaniswami alleged the DMK regime was deliberately stalling the progress of Advanced Institute of Integrated Research in Livestock and Animal Sciences (AIIRLAS), the largest in Asia envisaging progress in the lives of farmers, since it was launched during the AIADMK regime.

The DMK has cheated sugarcane farmers.

The burden of the over ₹4 lakh crore debts incurred by the DMK government so far during its rule will fall on the people in the form of taxes., Mr. Palaniswami cautioned.
