Seven booked for assaulting two police officers in Raichur district

A case has been registered against seven people, including a woman, on the charge of assaulting two police officers in Raichur district.

The police registered the case against the seven accused for assaulting an assistant sub-inspector and a sub-inspector in Mattur Tanda of Lingsugur taluk on November 11.

According to the FIR, Assistant Sub-Inspector Venkatappa Nayak was assaulted by the accused when he went for an investigation in a different case in which Mallappa Chavan was the complainant.

The names of the accused were given as Ramappa, Sakkubayi, Praveen Kumar, Shivu, Lokesh, Ramappa and Sudeepa.

The FIR further stated that Nayak saw Raghavendra, who is the son of Mallappa Chavan, being assaulted, tied to a tree. When he intervened and tried to resolve the quarrel, accused Sakkubayi assaulted him and pushed him to the ground.

Immediately after coming to know about the incident, Sub-Inspector of Police Venkatesh M. rushed to the Tanda to save the Assistant Sub-Inspector.

However, Sakkubayi and the other accused named in the FIR assaulted Venkatesh also, the FIR stated and added that the accused used abusive words and threatened to kill both the officers if they were to return to the Tanda.

Based on a complaint given by Nayak, the police registered the case against the seven accused under Sections 189(2), 191(2), 115(2), 118(1), 132, 109, 352, and 351(2) read with Section 190 of Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita 2023.

Investigation is on.
