The Trinamool Congress leadership on Wednesday (November 12, 2025) slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over its MP Shantanu Thakur’s derogatory remarks about Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. They came down heavily on Mr. Thakur and the BJP leaders for their “misogyny”.

“Misogyny isn’t an accident in @BJP4India, it’s their political culture. From the Prime Minister down to his foot soldiers, they have institutionalised the degradation of women in public life. Every time they fail to match Smt. @MamataOfficial’s courage, clarity, and conviction, they resort to gutter-level abuse,” a post from All India Trinamool Congress on their official social media handles stated.

In the video, Mr. Thakur is seen making comments about Ms. Banerjee’s appearance. “Have you recently seen the face of Mamata Banerjee? Her face has dried up like a mango seed,” Mr. Thakur is seen saying in the video collected from a public address.

The video was shared by the AITC social media page and said that repeated attacks on Ms. Banerjee show a “Nari-Birodhi” side of the BJP leadership.

“From @narendramodi’s vile “Didi O Didi” catcall, to Giriraj Singh’s “thumka” remark, to Sukanta Majumdar’s “dhanda” slur, to Abhijit Gangopadhyay’s obscene comments, each of these exposes BJP’s Nari-Birodhi mindset in its ugliest form,” the TMC further said.

They also claimed that the BJP leadership is insecure about Ms. Banerjee and said that because they cannot defeat her politically, they try to attack her personally.
