The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) General Secretary (Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare) M.V.S. Nagi Reddy has urged the State government to adopt a humane approach and immediately provide input subsidy to all farmers affected by Cyclone Montha, without imposing any restrictions.

Addressing a press conference at the party’s central office on Tuesday, Mr. Nagi Reddy accused Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu of continuing “anti-farmer” policies by underreporting crop loss figures and denying rightful compensation.

He alleged that the government had deliberately minimised loss assessments to avoid paying relief. It was “shocking,” he said, that farmers were being told their crops would not be procured if they registered for input subsidy. “When farmers suffer due to natural calamities, it is the government’s basic duty to ensure procurement and support,” he asserted.

Recalling the previous YSRCP government’s record, Mr. Nagi Reddy said ₹99,734 crore had been directly credited into farmers’ accounts through various welfare schemes, while ₹7,802 crore had been disbursed under the free crop insurance scheme benefiting 54.55 lakh farmers. “Agriculture flourished like a festival under Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, but the sector has now been pushed into crisis,” he remarked.

He further claimed that the present government had failed to deliver the promised ₹20,000 under the Annadata Sukhibhava scheme and had paid only ₹5,000 through Rythu Bharosa. The current crisis—marked by widespread crop losses across 24 districts and fodder shortages in Rayalaseema—was the worst in two decades, he said.

Mr. Nagi Reddy demanded that the government stop manipulating figures and extend full compensation and procurement support to all affected farmers. “If humanity means anything, this is the time to stand with them,” he said.
