Following the protest by farmers, the management of Ugar Sugar Mill in Belagavi district on Tuesday agreed to implement the Government Order on paying ₹3,300 per tonne of sugarcane.

On Monday, the management of Ugar Sugar Works Limited issued a notice saying that it will pay ₹3,250 per tonne of sugarcane instead of ₹3,300 fixed by the State government.

On learning about it, farmers led by Shashikath Guruji staged a huge protest in front of the sugar mill and urged the management to immediately withdraw the decision and pay farmers as per the Government Order.

Addressing the protesting farmers, Shashikanth Guruji warned the management about possible consequences if it stuck to its stand and declined to pay as per the Government Order.

As the agitation intensified, the mill management yielded and announced that it will pay ₹3,300 as fixed by the State government, following which the farmers withdrew their protest.
