The funeral procession of prominent poet and lyricist, Andesri, was held in Ghatkesar, Hyderabad, on Tuesday (November 11, 2025). Popularly known as people’s poet, he died while undergoing treatment at a government hospital in the city on Monday. Telangana government accorded a State funeral to him.

Jaya Jayahe Telangana part of curriculum

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy along with several Ministers participated in the procession and were among the pallbearers. The Chief Minister said that Andesri’s songs inspired people and that a decision would be taken by the Cabinet to include ‘Jaya Jayahe Telangana’ — Telangana State song written by Andesri — in the curriculum.

Addressing press after the funeral, Mr. Reddy said that efforts would be made to honour the poet with Padma Shri. A letter was addressed to the Centre last year and another communication would be sent this year too. He has requested Union Ministers G Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay Kumar, to cooperate in getting the honour.

The book ’Nippula Vagu’ – Telangana Movement Songs, a collection of Andesri’s songs, is a guide to people working for resolution of State issues. Around 20,000 copies of the book would be made available in all libraries in the State, the Chief Minister said.

Recalling Andesri’s journey as a shepherd and a mason, the Chief Minister said that the renowned poet played a key role in achieving the State as Telangana activist. ”When I was TPCC (Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee) president, I requested for his participation in attending issues of people in the State. Along with Gaddar, Andesri inspired people,” he said. The Chief Minister also said that a decision would be taken to provide a family member of Andesri with a government job.
