The city police have directed cab and autorickshaw aggregator apps to integrate the feed of their SoS buttons into the city police’s command centre so that they could respond immediately.

This was revealed by Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh during #THTalksBengaluru, The Hindu’s interactive programme where he answered readers’ questions on Monday.

“Presently, if a passenger is in trouble and presses the SoS button, it sends an alert to the aggregator, who will have to eventually alert us. Instead, we have asked them to tweak their apps in collaboration with our technology partners to ensure any passenger pressing an SoS button will send an alarm to our command centre as well. This way, we do not waste time,” Mr. Singh said.

He said that the police would soon mandate a sticker with the police helpline 112 and a QR code to take them to the KSP app.

“By logging into the app, the passenger can come on a video call with a responder at the command centre. In some situations, the passengers may not be in a position to even speak. Even then, we will get to know of the environment and the threat faced by the passenger,” Mr. Singh said.

These stickers will have to be stuck behind the front seats in both cabs and autorickshaws, he said.

No parking zones

Meanwhile, the Bengaluru Traffic Police are also working to integrate ‘No Parking zones’ across the city into the cab and autorickshaw aggregator apps. “When this is done, a driver is sent an alert when he is parking in a ‘No Parking zone’. The traffic police will also get an alert if a cab is parked in such a zone,” he said.

“We have met with representatives of the aggregator platforms, and they have agreed for these integrations with their platforms,” Mr. Singh said.
