All Omni Bus Owners Association, Tamil Nadu on Sunday announced that they have stopped operating buses to Kerala and Karnataka as they were unable to bear the cost of paying road taxes in those States.

Association president A. Anbalagan said that around 800 buses operated from and to these States daily and around 25,000 passengers are being affected by this move.

Kerala omni bus operators too have decided to stop operations as they are unable to pay road tax in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, he added.

Omni bus operators pay road tax and all India permit charges every 90 days and that amount doubles when they have to pay road tax in other States as well, he added.
