The Mysuru district police have arrested a 25-year-old resident of Davangere in connection with derogatory social media posts on Chief Minister Siddarmaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, and Ministers Priyank Kharge and Laxmi Hebbalkar.

The Mysuru District Cyber Crime police station registered a case based on a complaint lodged on October 25 by Vijaykumar N., a resident of Bandipalya in Mysuru, who is also a convenor of KPCC, who alleged that an unidentified person had edited and distorted images of Mr. Siddaramaiah and other Congress leaders aimed at insulting them.

The complainant alleged that the social media posts contained abusive languages against the leaders and contended that the act was “unconstitutional” and aimed at disturbing peace in the society.

The district police, which investigated the matter, apprehended Rajesh D.M., aged 25, who resides in Davangere. The accused, who was taken into custody in Davangere, was produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody, said a statement from the Mysuru district police.

Superintendent of Mysuru district police N. Vishnuvardhan has appreciated the efforts of Deputy Superintendent of Police R. Sreekanth, Police Inspector Sunil S.P., Police Sub Inspector Suresh Bopanna, and Police Constable Rangaswamy H.V., who were involved in cracking the case.
