In the run-up to the Tarn Taran by-election, BJP leaders on Friday (November 7, 2025) cornered the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab over its ‘unfulfilled’ promises, even as the party has been in power for about four years.

As the election campaign continues to gain momentum for the bypoll, slated for November 11, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar, during a rally, hit out at the AAP.

Mr. Saini said that the AAP has only misled people with false promises of change and has not fulfilled its promises made during the 2022 Assembly polls. “Despite being given a historic mandate, the AAP has betrayed public trust. While the BJP government in Haryana, now serving its third consecutive term, has fulfilled most of its promises, the AAP, on the other hand, in Punjab has only promoted corruption,” he said.

He also accused the Congress of pushing Punjab backward through its ill-conceived anti-people policies. “The anti-people face of both these parties has been exposed, and the people of Punjab will no longer be misled by their false promises. This by-election is about real guarantees of development, not hollow assurances,” he added.

Taking a dig surrounding ‘zero-tolerance’ claims of the AAP, the BJP State president said “It is ridiculous that those who themselves served jail terms in Delhi for scams are talking about making Punjab corruption-free.

Mr. Jakhar said that the law and order situation across the State has worsened during the AAP regime. “There is such fear of gangsterism among the people that even small shopkeepers are receiving threatening calls,” he said.
