Kerala has emerged as a front-runner in the assessment of school standards in India, General Education Minister V. Sivankutty has said. He was speaking after inaugurating a new building of the GSMM Government Higher Secondary School at S.L. Puram on Thursday.

“The State government has spent ₹5,000 crore to improve the quality of schools. By making classrooms hi-tech, modernising teaching methods and providing students with the best possible facilities, the government has made significant progress,” Mr. Sivankutty said.

The new building was constructed at a cost of ₹1.5 crore. With a floor area of 1,717 sq. m, it houses eight classrooms, a staff room, and two toilet blocks.

Later, the Minister inaugurated the new building of the Government Higher Secondary School at Kalavoor.

Built at a cost of ₹50 lakh, the two-storey structure has a total area of 15,580 sq. ft., and includes four higher secondary classrooms, six high school classrooms, and an open stage. Each classroom is adjoined by an activity area.
