MLC and KPCC working president Manjunath Bhandary has said that the Congress party will take up activities, including a signature campaign, to spread awareness among the people about ‘vote chori’.

Addressing a press conference in Shivamogga on November 7, Mr. Bhandary said Congress party leader Rahul Gandhi had held press conferences divulging details of the theft of votes during elections, which pose a threat to the democratic system. Rahul Gandhi had exposed the theft of votes with all available materials. The Congress party had decided to spread awareness on the issue across India and collect five crore signatures in support of their campaign. The signatures would be submitted to the President.

Answering a question, Mr. Bhandary said there is no need to submit the complaint to the Election Commission as the allegations were against the same institution. “There is no point in submitting complaint to the accused. We will concentrate on spreading awareness on the issue among the people and submit our plea to the President of the nation,” he said.

Referring to BJP MP Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri’s statement that the national anthem Jana Gana Mana was originally written to welcome British officials, Mr. Manjunath said the BJP leader is spreading a lie, and showing disrespect to the national anthem. “The incident shows that BJP leaders hardly respect the national anthem and the Constitution.”

Shivamogga District Congress Committee chairperson R. Prasanna Kumar and other leaders of the party were present.
