Muslim Youth League (MYL) State general secretary P.K. Firos has dismissed the allegations of illegal business deals raised against him by K.T. Jaleel, Left-backed Independent MLA and former Minister.

Addressing the media here on Thursday, the MYL leader claimed that he would soon release documents and evidence showing Mr. Jaleel’s role in a big scam related to land acquisition for the Thunchath Ezhuthachan Malayalam University at Tirur in Malappuram during his tenure as the Minister for Higher Education. “Mr. Jaleel is targeting me to pre-empt the embarrassment he is likely to face in the wake of those charges,” Mr. Firos said.

Mr. Jaleel had recently conducted a press meet in Malappuram to level allegations against Mr. Firos, which was followed up by a social media post in which he wondered if the MYL leader was engaged in dubious ‘hawala’ transactions through a Dubai-based company.

‘Accounts transparent’

Mr. Firos claimed that he was a businessman and none of his activities were illegal. “I am a part-time employee of the Dubai-based company and I earn a decent income though not as much as claimed by Mr. Jaleel. I don’t need to convince Mr. Jaleel about the size of the company or its staff strength. I am also involved in running two fast food outlets in the State. All my bank accounts are transparent. Their details have been given to the Election Commission of India and the Income Tax department,” he said.

Mr. Firos also said that he held business visas in the U.K., Canada, and the U.S. as well. The MYL leader said that politicians should not see politics as a profession and that they should be engaged in other jobs. Mr. Firos also refuted Mr. Jaleel’s allegation that he had misused MYL’s party funds for himself.
