Air India flight diverted to Mongolia due to a technical glitch

Air India’s San Francisco to Delhi flight was diverted to Mongolia’s Ulaanbaatar on Monday (November 3, 2025) due to a suspected technical glitch after flying for 11 hours.

The airline said that the Boeing 777-300 aircraft was undergoing checks, and it was making efforts to take passengers to their destination.

“AI 174 of 02 November, operating from San Francisco to Delhi via Kolkata, made a precautionary landing at Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, after the flight crew suspected a technical issue en route,” according to the airline’s press statement. The aircraft made a safe landing in Mongolia.

The AI 174 of November 2, which flies from SFO to Delhi via Kolkata ever since the closure of Pakistan airspace in April, took off at 2:25 p.m. local time but was forced to divert to Ulaanbaatar 11 hours into the flight and nearly seven hours short of its stop at Kolkata at 8:45 p.m. The flight’s scheduled arrival in Delhi was at 12:40 a.m.
